Hyperwave Architecture

The Hyperwave system (Fig 26.2) is designed to bring organization and manageability to the huge stores of unstructured information. Displaying information in a familiar and easy-to-navigate hierarchical structure, the system seamlessly integrates access to information stored in a plethora of native formats. Hyperwave allows for powerful user publishing, real-time indexing and search capabilities the right information is always easy to find, access and enrich through sharing. Users receive email notifications of new or changed information so they are always up to date with the information that's most relevant to them.

Hyperwave aims to offer the following characteristics:

Ease of use
-- Web browser-driven, secure, single point of access to all of an organization's information. Intuitive user publishing capabilities, requiring no special tools or skills, enabling effective knowledge sharing and information enrichment.

Document and content management
-- Fully automated hyperlink generation and management coupled with sophisticated document management capabilities insuring information context, consistency and accessibility. Distributed server architecture - "Server Pools" - allowing information to be maintained where created while providing consistent organization-wide access and smooth system scalability.

Locating information
-- Simple search tools and hyperlink-driven navigation are inadequate. Intuitive and sophisticated search engines are indispensable to quickly locate and drill-down into the information contained in large volumes of organizational data. Structure composed of content-centric hierarchies and information metadata are vital keys to efficiently finding the information you need, when you need it.

Security and personalization
-- Personalized and secure access to the information most important to individual users is necessary. A portal system must be able to transparently balance the need to provide effective, fine grained security for sensitive information while providing users with custom tailored views and access to the information they need to be most effective.
