MPJ: A Reference Message passing implementation for Java and Recent Clusters Computing Activities
Mark Baker, University of Portsmouth In this talk I will cover two topics. Firstly, I discuss a proposed message passing reference implementation for Java (MPJ), the Java Grande Forum's MPI-like message-passing API. The proposal relies heavily on RMI and Jini for finding computational resources, creating slave processes, and handling failures. User-level communication is implemented efficiently directly on top of Java sockets. Secondly, I will briefly outline the activities of the IEEE Computer Society Task Force on Cluster Computing (TFCC) and then finally discuss emerging trends and technologies in this area.
