Creating Your Own Home Page and other files for the WWW

• Create the file using BBEdit and save it to disk. If the file is intended to be your home page save it as index.html.
• Make sure file is correct by viewing it locally in Explorer/Netscape on Macintosh.
• Use Fetch to FTP file to your UNIX File space.
• Save file in the public_html directory. It Must be placed here.

• You must now register your www pages (especially in the first instance). This may be a little tricky. Seek advice in the Internet Labs if you are unsure.
  • Use BetterTelnetPPC to Telnet to thrall.cs.cf.ac.uk.
  • Login to thrall with you UNIX User ID (e.g. scm...) and password at the terminal window of Telnet.
  • Use Explorer/Netscape to read the following URL: http://www.cs.cf.ac.uk/User/howto.html

  • Follow the instruction carefully from this page. Copy (manually or copy/paste with mouse) the UNIX commands especially carefully.
