Multimedia data (audio, video, etc.) is often called continuous
data. They have the following characteristics:
- voluminous
- real-time (synchronization, esp. between audio and video)
- interactive (e.g., in video conferencing, interactive TV)
- sometimes bursty (e.g., video-on-demand)
