Who Runs Usenet?

• There is no central authority for Usenet
• Usenet is run collectively by the people that use it
• The news administrator is responsible for running his or her Usenet site
• There a newsgroups specifically set up for news administrators to have discussions regarding the maintenance and administration of news
• As a consequence, nobody can tell anybody else what to do
• This fact makes Usenet alluring and distinguishes it from other discussion groups like those available from on-line services
• Usenet is not total anarchy but rather has a set of conventions and etiquette which users are expected to follow
