Forget the inexcusably ugly (and somewhat racist) artwork and a few of the weaker tracks. At its best this double-Lp has some of miles Davis' finest playing of the 1970's, and the solos by altoist Gary Bartz, guitarist John McLaughlin and keyboardist Keith Jarrett are not that far behind on such lengthy pieces as "What I Say" and "Funky Tonk." Fusion at its most adventurous (and sometimes most riotous), before the record labels and radio stations turned it into meaningless "smooth jazz." ~ Scott Yanow, All-Music Guide
