Groupware is intended to create a shared workspace that supports dynamic
collaboration in a work group over space and time constraints.
To gain some collective benefits for groupware use:
- Groupware must be accepted by a majority of group members
- Be used a common work tool
- I.e. It must have achieved some critical mass at first.
Groupware is an example of Multimedia conferencing.
Common approaches to computer-based groupware include:
- Local Networking
- -- employing standard distributed networking
technology
- Shared Window Systems
- -- Whiteboard applications (see above)
etc. provide windows which share an application or support
collaborative working.
- multi-user applications
- Video conferencing
- Team Workstations
