Keep Web pages simple
Keep the length of a Web page to no more than 1.5 pages.
Minimise Scrolling
Do not clutter you pages with unnecessary graphics, Forms or
wordy text.
Be succinct and to the point with the information.
Layout the information logically.
Use ``white'' space around page elements -- do not clutter
information on your page
Create margins to improve layout.
Use colours sparingly to provide maximum effect.
Design pages with a 640X480 pixel width page as the norm.
Keep file sizes low -- avoid lots of images etc.
Nobody is going to wait 10 minutes for your files to download
The Web is still full of 14.4K modems.
To Keep image size down minimise the number of colours available
For simple graphics use HTML commands rather than images.
Keep Web information fresh -- No body requires out of date
information.
Check web links regularly -- dead links are annoying.
Try to make you web pages Browser and platform independent.
Do not forget the ALT attribute with the <img src..>
tag for browsers that do not support graphics.
Allow for alternate pages for browsers that do not support Frames
Do not overuse Frames.
Keep Frames simple
Provide a choice for Browsers that cannot use Frames
Do not add lots plugins and helper applications to spruce up your
browser and your web pages. Not everybody will have these facilities
available.
Do not use Java/JavaScript or other dynamic web page enahancers
unless they are absolutely necessary. They take time to download and
not all browsers may support such things well.
Learn Good HTML -- this is always more efficient.
Use common backgrounds to create a Web site identity.
Images and all web documents are cached by browsers. Reusing this
