Accessing Usenet

• To access Usenet, you use a program called a newsreader
• For Mac, use NewsWatcher
• For Windows, use Trumpet News
• For Unix, use XNews
• Netscape also provides a pass-able newsreader
• Newsreaders allow you to subscribe and unsubscribe from groups and keep track of which articles within subscribed groups have been read and which articles are new
• The Usenet system is a client-server system
• Actual articles are stored on a news server

At Cardiff you must connect to the netnews.cf.ac.uk newserver.
