Up: USENET
Previous: Usenet Terminology
- To access Usenet, you use a program called a newsreader
- For Mac, use NewsWatcher
- For Windows, use Trumpet News
- For Unix, use XNews
- Netscape also provides a pass-able newsreader
- Newsreaders allow you to subscribe and unsubscribe from groups
and keep track of which articles within subscribed groups have been read and
which articles are new
- The Usenet system is a client-server system
- Actual articles are stored on a news server
At Cardiff you must connect to the netnews.cf.ac.uk newserver.
