Stuart Allen

I am a senior lecturer in the Cardiff School of Computer Science & Informatics. I obtained my BSc in Mathematics from Nottingham University in 1992, and my PhD in Graph Theory from the University of Reading in 1996. As a post-doc between 1996 and 2000, my time was divided between Glamorgan University and Cardiff University on various joint projects.

Research

My current research interests concern the use of opportunistic wireless networks for information dissemination, and optimisation problems arising in wireless communications networks.

Current projects

Current Phd students

  • Ian Flood: Frequency assignment and equipment selection for fixed link networks
  • Will Webberley: Autonomic dissemination of relevant content in electronic social networks
  • Abdolast Greede: Information dissemination using repositories in opportunistic networks

I’d be interested in supervising PhDs in any areas of my research interests, but particularly the application of social networks to opportunistic networking, and optimisation problems arising in mesh networks (some sample projects can be found below). If you’re interested in PhD study in this area, please contact me to discuss any potential projects.
