KES2008: 11th
International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent
Information & Engineering Systems September 3, 4, 5,
2008, Call for Papers: Invited Session " Evolutionary Multiobjective
Optimization" |
|
Background Most
real-world problems have several (often conflicting) objectives that have to
be satisfied simultaneously, and a single perfect solution seldom
exists. Instead such problems are
characterized by a set of compromise solutions (i.e., a Pareto set), in which
improvements in some objectives must always be balanced against a degradation
in others. Nevertheless, traditional optimization techniques require that all
the objectives are combined into a single scalar value, relying on a priori
assessments with respect to the relative weightings of the component
objectives. Evolutionary
algorithms are highly suited to solving problems that involve multiple
objectives. They are population based, and so they can generate a whole set
of trade-off solutions, whereas other techniques tend to work from a single
point in the search space. Multiobjective
evolutionary algorithms can provide a decision-maker with a set of excellent
trade-off solutions from which a final selection can be made. Topics
This special session
will focus on recent research and application results in Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization (EMO) including, but not
limited to, the following topics:
Papers must correspond to the global conference format requirements
detailed in the Instructions to Authors section, available on the Conference
Web Site (follow the links from “Paper Submission”): http://kes2008.kesinternational.org/ Please note that the maximum
paper length is eight pages. Papers longer than this will be subject to a
penalty charge, or may be rejected altogether, if considered excessively long
by the KES2008 organizers. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the
authors, who must register and pay the fee. Authors
are not encouraged to submit multiple papers, and authors will be restricted
to one paper per registration. All papers for KES2008 must be
submitted in electronic form using the software review system on the KES site
at http://kes2008.kesinternational.org/prose.php
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the LNAI series. Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication
in the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering
Systems, http://www.kesinternational.org/journal/,
or the International Journal of
Metaheuristics, http://www.inderscience.com/ijmheur.
